Proceedings of conference – 16 February 2019, New Delhi

On 16 February 2019 during the International Conference organised by International Conference on Occupational & Environmental Health (ICOEH), Occupational and Environmental Health Network of India (OEHNI) and India Ban Asbestos Network (iBAN) organized an one day workshop with various national and international delegates. The main aim of the workshop was to discuss the prevailing asbestos issues in the country and how the regulatory bodies in India are addressing the issues.

Different groups of delegates attended the workshop including medical practitioners and interns, government officials, NGOs, Trade Unions, international regulatory bodies, workers suffering from Asbestos related disorders, think tanks, and others.

Topics like due diligence and regulatory reforms in asbestos industry were discussed with the government and international regulatory bodies like ILO on one hand while on the other business and human rights was also discussed with representatives from think tanks and anti-asbestos industry.

Overall it was a fruitful day where the delegates shared their experiences and viewpoints while finding a way out for an Asbestos free India.
